What We Do With Elephant Dung

What we do with elephant dung – at Kerchor ECO Elephant Park!

Just because we call something a waste product doesn’t necessarily mean we should waste it. Elephant dung makes for excellent compost fertilizer. This is because they digest so little of their food. What is left is a pile of semi-digested leaves, grass and bark and rest fruits. Everything perfect and very good for soil. We use elephant dung in our morning glory garden and result of our vegetable is pretty good.

Elephant dung is a natural, non-polluting mosquito repellent. Our mahouts at Kerchor Camp use mosquito repellent made from elephant dung and “burn”/smoke it. The generated smoke from the burnt dung kills mosquito’s (no, there is no need to apply the dung to the skin!). It also doesn’t have a particularly pungent smell and is actually less offensive to your nostrils than the average spray-on repellent.

Actually elephant dung can change to a lot of things. Some place use it for paper and coffee. But we are an expert to use it as fertilizer and mosquito’s repellent because we have this work nearly everyday.
